Abstract Glyphosate-resistant palmer amaranth, Amaranthus palmeri, a difficult to control weed with aggressive growth, capable of causing large yield losses in annual crops, was identified in Brazil, in the state of Mato Grosso, in 2015. After notification, an epidemiological survey was carried out to identify the place of entry and area of dispersion. Containment and eradication measures were quickly established by state and federal phytosanitary authorities through legislative measures. After identification, it was classified as a quarantine weed under official control. The Palmer amaranth Containment and Eradication Committee was established in order to support the phytosanitary defense agencies in the actions to combat the weed. State agricultural inspectors were trained to identify the species and survey the State. Actions aimed at the farmers were also carried out, highlighting the importance of identification, control and awareness. The weed was found in six municipalities in 10 farms in Mato Grosso. The importation of a used cotton harvester from the United States of America and its internal transit were found to be the main route of entry and spread of the weed. The weed spread to the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, in 2022 and was detected in two municipalities and six properties. A detailed survey is on progress. It is necessary to understand movement routes and establish measures to contain it. Effective measures regarding the importation and cleaning of used machinery needs to be adopted to avoid weed seed dispersal, and Federal legislation is needed to contain and eradicate the weed.

Abstract Background Amaranthus palmeri is an economically important plant species worldwide. The rapid growth and competitive potential of crops make A. palmeri a major problem. Studies on the dissemination potential of this weed in Brazil and worldwide are necessary to identify the regions with high climatic potential. Similarly, we analyzed the behavior of the species in the face of predicted climate change. Studies of this type can be performed using ecological niche modeling. Objective This work aimed to determine areas with climatic suitability for A. palmeri in the present and future climates in Brazil and globally. Methods We projected the potential distribution of A. palmeri based on the environmental requirements and stress parameters that limit this species in Brazil. Results For the current climate, our model identified regions with favorable climatic suitability for A. palmeri on most continents. The results showed that the suitability of A. palmeri in the Brazilian territory will decrease owing to predicted climate change. The future model highlighted decreases in the suitable northern, northeastern, and midwestern areas. An annual study of the occurrence of A. palmeri using the weekly growth index predicted by the model showed great potential for the species throughout the year, with a decrease in the driest months (July to August), indicating the preference of the species for moist soils. Tropical and subtropical zones are currently experiencing a reduction in suitable areas because of climate change in northeastern Brazil and western Australia. Temperate zone sites have potential areas of expansion for A. palmeri (northern USA, Russia, and China) under climate change. Conclusions Based on the results of this study, management strategies should be planned to contain the global spread of A. palmeri.

RESUMEN Entre las malezas que interfieren en el crecimiento y desarrollo del sorgo dulce se destaca el amor seco, especialmente por presentar alta capacidad competitiva por los recursos disponibles en el medio. El objetivo de este estudio es comparar la capacidad competitiva del sorgo dulce (Sorghum bicolor) frente al papunga (Bidens pilosa), en función de la proporción de cultivo y planta. Los experimentos se realizaron en un invernadero en un diseño completamente al azar, con cuatro repeticiones. Los tratamientos se organizaron en series de reemplazo en las proporciones de 100: 0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75 y 0: 100% (sorgo: maleza) que correspondieron a 20:0, 15:5, 10:10, 5:15 y 0:20 plantas por maceta con volumen de 8 dm3 de sorgo dulce (cultivares BRS 506, BRS 509 o BRS 511) contra B. pilosa. Cincuenta días después de la emergencia, se evaluaron el área foliar de la planta (LA), la masa seca de los brotes (MS), la fotosíntesis (A) y la transpiración (E). La capacidad competitiva se analizó utilizando el método de análisis gráfico, construyendo diagramas basados en la productividad total y relativa. También se determinaron la competitividad, el coeficiente de agrupamiento y la agresividad. Los cultivares de sorgo, en general, fueron menos competitivos en todas las proporciones de B. pilosa. Hubo pequeñas diferencias en la capacidad competitiva entre los cultivares de sorgo; BRS 509 demostró ser ligeramente más competitivo que BRS 506 y BRS 511 frente al B. pilosa a. Sin embargo, es poco probable que esto proporcione una ventaja competitiva para BRS 509 en los campos de producción, por lo que B. pilosa a debe controlarse de manera eficiente al principio del ciclo de cultivo para evitar pérdidas de productividad, independientemente del cultivar de sorgo.

ABSTRACT Among the weeds that interfere with the growth and development of sweet sorghum, beggar ticks stands out, because it has a high competitive capacity for the available resources. This study aims to compare the competitive ability of sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) against hairy beggarticks (Bidens pilosa L.), as a function of cultivar and plant proportion. Experiments were conducted in a greenhouse in a completely randomized design with four replications and six treatments. Treatments were arranged in replacement series in the proportions of 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, and 0:100% (sorghum:weed) equivalent to 20:0, 15:5, 10:10, 5:15 and 0:20 plants per pot with 8 dm3 capacity of sweet sorghum (cultivars ‘BRS 506’, ‘BRS 509’ or ‘BRS 511’) against hairy beggarticks. Fifty days after emergence, plant leaf area (LA), aboveground dry mass (DM), photosynthesis (A), and transpiration rates (E) were measured. Competitive ability was analyzed by using the graphical analysis method and building diagrams based on total and relative productivity. Competitiveness, clustering coefficient, and aggressiveness were also determined. Sorghum cultivars, in general, showed losses independently of the proportion of hairy beggarticks. Statistical analysis showed small differences in competitive ability among sorghum cultivars; ‘BRS 509’ was also demonstrated to be slightly more competitive than ‘BRS 506’ and ‘BRS 511’ against hairy beggarticks. This, however, is unlikely to provide a competitive advantage for ‘BRS 509’ in production fields, and hairy beggarticks should be efficiently controlled early in the crop cycle to avoid productivity losses, independently of the sorghum cultivar.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produtividade de grãos e a resposta econômica de milho (Zea mays) segunda safra submetido a diferentes combinações de adubações de N em semeadura e cobertura, na região do Cerrado brasileiro. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, em arranjo fatorial 3×4 (0, 45 e 90 kg ha-1 de N na semeadura e 0, 22,5, 45 e 90 kg ha-1 de N em cobertura na forma de ureia), em seis ambientes, tendo-se combinado três locais e duas épocas de semeadura. A produtividade de grãos foi determinada, e a resposta às doses totais de N na semeadura e em cobertura foi usada para obter um modelo geral da tendência média de retorno técnico e econômico da adubação. A resposta da cultura de milho variou de acordo com o ambiente, e as produtividades observadas foram altas. A adubação nitrogenada na semeadura aumentou a produtividade do milho e melhorou o efeito da adubação em cobertura ou até a dispensou. A fertilização com 90 kg ha-1 de N na forma de ureia proporciona maior produtividade e retorno econômico e melhora o balanço deste nutriente no sistema soja/milho segunda safra.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to assess the grain yield and the economic response of off-season corn (Zea mays) crop subjected to different combinations of starter and topdressing nitrogen fertilization, in the Brazilian Cerrado region. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design in a 3×4 factorial arrangement (0, 45, and 90 kg ha-1 N at sowing and 0, 22.5, 45, and 90 kg ha-1 N in topdressing as urea), in six environments, combining three sites and two sowing times. Grain yield was determined, and the response to total N applied as starter and topdressing was used to obtain a general model of the average trend of the technical and economic return of fertilization. The corn crop response varied according to the environment, and the observed yields were high. The application of N as a starter fertilizer increased corn yield and improved the effect of topdressing fertilization or even made it unnecessary. Fertilization with 90 kg ha-1 N as urea promotes greater yield and economic return and improves N balance in the soybean/off-season corn crop system.

RESUMO O uso de glifosato associado com outros herbicidas torna-se uma alternativa importante para o manejo de plantas daninhas infestantes do milho, pois ele aumenta o espectro de controle, minimiza problemas com resistência e tolerância de plantas daninhas ao herbicida. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a eficiência, a seletividade e os efeitos nos componentes de rendimento de grãos do milho resistente ao glifosato pelo uso dessa substância associada ou não a outros herbicidas aplicados em pré- e pós-emergência. O experimento foi instalado em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com quatros repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram na utilização do glifosato em combinação com os herbicidas: atrazina, [atrazina + simazina], [atrazina + óleo], [atrazina + S-metolacloro], aplicados em pré- e/ou pós-emergência e o [nicosulfuron + mesotriona] somente em pós-emergência, além das testemunhas capinada e infestada. Avaliaram-se as variáveis: fitotoxicidade ao milho, controle de plantas daninhas, altura de inserção de espigas, número de fileiras e de grãos por espiga, peso de mil grãos e a produtividade de grãos. Os herbicidas ocasionaram baixa fitotoxicidade ao milho, inferior a 6%, controle superior a 88, 95 e 95% para papuã, nabo e girassol, respectivamente, e não influenciaram negativamente nos componentes relacionados ao rendimento de grãos da cultura. Os herbicidas testados são seletivos ao híbrido Forseed 2A521 PW e efetivos no controle de papuã, nabo e girassol. O manejo das plantas daninhas com capina ou herbicidas proporcionou aumento de cerca de 43% na produtividade de grãos do híbrido de milho Forseed 2A521 PW. O uso de glifosato em mistura de tanque com herbicidas aplicados em pré- ou pós-emergência incrementou, aproximadamente, 14% a produtividade de grãos de milho.

ABSTRACT The application of glyphosate associated with other herbicides is an important alternative for weed control in maize, to increase control spectrum and to minimize problems with resistance and tolerance from some species to the product. The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficacy, selectivity and effects on the grain yield components of glyphosate-resistant maize as a function of its application, associated or not with other pre- and postemergence herbicides. The design used was randomized blocks with four replications. Treatments consisted in the use of glyphosate combined with the herbicides: atrazine, [atrazine + simazine], [atrazine + oil], [atrazine + S-metolachlor], applied pre- and/or postemergence and [nicosulfuron + mesotrione] only postemergence, plus two controls, one weeded and one infested. The evaluated variables were maize phytotoxicity, weed control, ear insertion height, number of rows per ear, number of grains per row, one thousand grain mass and grain yield. Herbicide treatments caused low phytotoxicity to maize, less than 6%; control greater than 88, 95 and 95% for alexandergrass, turnip and sunflower, respectively, and did not affect grain yield components. The tested herbicides are selective to the hybrid Forseed 2A521 PW and effective in weed control. Weed control with weeding or herbicide increased maize Forseed 2A521 PW yield by 43%. The association of glyphosate with pre- or postemergence herbicides increased maize grain yield by approximately 14%.

Resumo Os objetivos do presente estudo foram: a) testar se existe diferença entre os valores de espessura muscular mensurados por ultrassonografia em três diferentes pontos, nos músculos flexores de cotovelo e extensores do joelho em pacientes com doença de Parkinson (DP); b) Testar se existe correlação entre a espessura muscular e desempenho funcional em pacientes com DP. A medida de espessura muscular foi avaliada por ultrassonografia em três pontos anatômicos nos flexores de cotovelo (proximal – FC1, médio, FC2, e distal – FC3) e extensores de joelho (proximal – EJ1, medial - EJ2, e distal – EJ3), além da avaliação do desempenho funcional (teste de sentar e levantar, e flexão de cotovelo) de 31 pacientes (64.6 ± 10.6 anos de idade) com DP. Os resultados sugerem que a espessura muscular do ponto FC3 foi significativamente (p>0.05) menor que os valores do ponto FC2 e FC1. A espessura muscular dos extensores do joelho foi estatisticamente diferente nos pontos anatômicos dos músculos reto da coxa e vasto intermédio (EJ1>EJ2>EJ3). Não houve correlação entre a espessura muscular e o desempenho funcional dos membros inferiores (r= 0.17; p= 0.35) e superiores (r= -0.17; p= 0.34) de pacientes com DP. Os resultados do nosso estudo indicam que o ponto anatômico de mensuração exerce influência significativa na espessura muscular dos flexores do cotovelo e extensores do joelho de pacientes com DP. Desta forma, a determinação criteriosa dos locais de avaliação da espessura muscular é uma variável fundamental, quando o objetivo é quantificar a espessura muscular em pacientes com DP.

Abstract The aims of this study were: a) to check if there is difference between muscle thickness measured by ultrasonography at three different sites, elbow flexors and knee extensors of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD); b) to check if there is correlation between muscle thickness and functional performance in patients with PD. Muscle thickness was assessed by ultrasonography at three anatomical sites in elbow flexors (proximal - EF1, medial, EF2, and distal - EF3) and knee extensors (proximal - EK1, medial - EK2, and distal - EK3), as well as functional performance assessment (chair stand and arm curl) of 31 patients with PD. The results suggest that EF3 muscle thickness was significantly (p> 0.05) lower than EF2 and EF1. Muscle thickness of knee extensors was statistically different in the anatomical points of rectus muscles and vastus medialis muscles (EK1>EK2>EK3). There was no correlation between muscle thickness and functional performance of lower (r= 0.17; p= 0.35) and upper limbs (r= -0.17; p= 0.34) of PD patients. The results indicate that the anatomical point has significant influence on the muscle thickness of elbow flexors and knee extensors of patients with PD. Thus, the careful determination of the evaluation of muscle thickness sites is a key variable when the goal is to quantify muscle thickness in patients with PD.

RESUMO A radiologia no curso de graduação em Medicina alcançou nova dimensão não só como instrumento de diagnóstico complementar, mas também por sua utilização como ferramenta de ensino, integrada ao estudo da anatomia e patologia, entre outros assuntos. Embora os conhecimentos da radiologia sejam bastante utilizados no ensino da medicina através de metodologias ativas, ainda são escassos os trabalhos relatando a experiência de como o aluno percebe a importância desse conhecimento. Objetivo Estudar a percepção de alunos de medicina sobre a inserção da radiologia no ensino de graduação com uso de metodologias ativas. Método Estudo qualitativo, realizado com estudantes de medicina matriculados no terceiro e quinto semestres, cuja amostra constituiu-se de 12 alunos de uma população de 100 alunos de uma universidade pública estadual. Os dados foram obtidos através de entrevistas, com a aplicação de um questionário semiestruturado com questões abertas sobre o ensino da radiologia, suas implicações e aplicações em medicina, características positivas e negativas, no processo de aprendizagem através do uso de metodologias ativas. Os dados foram analisados separadamente, agrupados por categorização e submetidos à análise temática por dois pesquisadores, antes da reflexão conjunta, havendo ainda a descrição do ambiente e também a triangulação dos resultados. Resultados Foram identificados conteúdos latentes e semânticos, recorrentes, singulares e controversos. Os temas recorrentes identificados como fundamentos de uma estratégia vantajosa para o ensino do radiodiagnóstico na graduação médica foram: necessidade de introdução precoce da radiologia por conta de sua transversalidade e seu papel na atividade de ensino em serviço; ensino sistemático dos princípios biofísicos e vocabulário para facilitar o estudo; o papel do exame complementar no contexto do problema na tutoria e o desenvolvimento de material didático de conteúdo integrado com abordagem morfofuncional. Aspectos singulares como a dificuldade para estudo que envolva conhecimento de língua estrangeira e o uso de redes sociais, e controvérsias identificadas, a respeito do papel do professor no processo de ensino e aprendizagem, bem como, em relação ao significado do aprendizado da radiologia na graduação em medicina, também foram considerados elementos construtivos de uma abordagem moderna, já que o ensino da radiologia vive um momento de reformulação. Conclusão Observou-se que na percepção dos estudantes entrevistados, o componente curricular morfofuncional, frequentemente utilizado no ensino baseado em problemas poderá ser usado para abordar a radiologia e diagnóstico por imagem numa visão multidimensional, contextualizada e interdisciplinar que vá além do papel de método de exame complementar, integrado a outros saberes de forma significativa, especialmente anatomia e patologia, facilitando a aprendizagem tanto da radiologia quanto dos demais assuntos envolvidos na temática abordada em cada módulo de estudo.

ABSTRACT Radiology in medical school has taken on a new dimension in terms of its usefulness, not only as a complementary diagnostic instrument but also as a teaching tool integrated into the study of anatomy and pathology, among other subjects. Although knowledge of radiology is widely used in medical teaching, through active methodologies, there is a lack of studies reporting experiences of how students view the importance of this knowledge. Aim To study the perceptions of medical students on the inclusion of radiology in undergraduate education, through the use of active methodologies. Method A qualitative study, conducted with students enrolled in the third and fifth semesters. The sample comprised 12 subjects chosen from a population of 100 students at a public state university. Data were obtained from interviews using a semi-structured questionnaire with open questions about radiology teaching, its implications and applications in medicine, and positive and negative characteristics of the learning process using active methodologies. Data were analyzed separately, grouped by categorization, and submitted to thematic analysis by two researchers, before being reflected on jointly. There was also description of the environment and triangulation of the results. Results Latent, semantic, recurrent, unique, and controversial contents were identified. The recurrent themes in the interviews, identified as forming the basis of an advantageous strategy for radiodiagnostic teaching in undergraduate medical education, were as follows: (a) the need of an early introduction to radiology, due to its transversality and its importance to teaching; (b) a systematic study of the biophysical principles and vocabulary used in the field, to facilitate its study; (c) the role of complementary exams in the context of tutoring problems and (d) the development of teaching materials that use integrated content with a morphofunctional approach. Unique aspects, such as study difficulties related to knowledge of a foreign language and the use of social networks, and controversies regarding the teachers’ role in the process and what it means to learn radiology in medical school were also considered elements that can be used as part of a modern approach, with radiology education currently being in a process of change. Conclusion It was concluded, according to the perceptions of the students interviewed, that the morphofunctional curricular component often used in problem-based teaching might be used to teach radiology and imaging diagnosis, within a multidimensional, contextualized, and transdisciplinary perspective. This goes beyond its role as a means of providing complementary exams, significantly integrating other sources of knowledge (especially anatomy and pathology) and facilitating the learning of both radiology and related subjects addressed in each study module.

RESUMO A carência de herbicidas registrados para o controle de plantas daninhas, em sorgo sacarino, torna-se fator limitante à produção. Objetivou-se avaliar a seletividade de herbicidas em sorgo sacarino e a eficiência no controle de plantas daninhas. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos ao acaso, com quarto repetições. Os tratamentos incluíram cultivares de sorgo sacarino (BRS 506, BRS 509 e BRS 511) e herbicidas aplicados isoladamente em pré-emergência (atrazine - 1.500 g ha-1; atrazine + s-metolachlor - 1.665 g ha-1 + 1.035 g ha-1; flumioxazin - 50 g ha-1; s-metolachlor - 1.440 g ha-1) e pós-emergência (tembotrione - 100,8 g ha-1) e de forma sequencial em pré e pós-emergência (atrazine + s-metolachlor + tembotrione - 1.665 g ha-1 + 1.035 g ha-1 + 100,8 g ha-1; atrazine + tembotrione - 1.500 g ha-1 + 100,8 g ha-1; flumioxazin + tembotrione - 50 g ha-1 + 100,8 g ha-1), mais duas testemunhas, uma capinada e outra sem capina. A fitotoxicidade ao sorgo foi de 98,0 %, 98,0 % e 100 % de tembotrione; 100 %, 98,7 % e 100 % de flumioxazin + tembotrione; 100 %, 100 % e 100 % de atrazine + s-metolachlor + tembotrione; e 98,7 %, 98,7 % e 99,7 % de atrazine + tembotrione, respectivamente para as cultivares BRS 509, BRS 506 e BRS 511. Tembotrione, flumioxazin + tembotrione, atrazine + s-metolachlor + tembotrione e atrazine + tembotrione apresentaram bom controle de Ipomoea indivisa, Digitaria ciliaris e Urochloa plantaginea, porém, não demonstraram seletividade às cultivares de sorgo. O atrazine, de modo geral, apresentou maior seletividade aos componentes de rendimento das cultivares BRS 509 e BRS 506.

ABSTRACT The lack of registered herbicides for weed control in sweet sorghum has been a limiting production factor. This study aimed at evaluating the selectivity of herbicides in sweet sorghum and weed control efficiency. A randomized blocks design, with four replications, was used. Treatments consisted of sweet sorghum cultivars (BRS 506, BRS 509 and BRS 511) and herbicides applied alone at pre-emergence (atrazine - 1,500 g ha-1; atrazine + s-metolachlor - 1,665 g ha-1 + 1,035 g ha-1; flumioxazin - 50 g ha-1; s-metolachlor - 1,440 g ha-1) and post-emergence (tembotrione - 100.8 g ha-1) and sequentially at pre- and post-emergence (atrazine + s-metolachlor + tembotrione - 1,665 g ha-1 + 1,035 g ha-1 + 100.8 g ha-1; atrazine + tembotrione - 1,500 g ha-1 + 100.8 g ha-1; flumioxazin + tembotrione - 50 g ha-1 + 100.8 g ha-1), plus two controls, one weeded and one unweeded. The phytotoxicity rate to sorghum was 98.0 %, 98.0 % and 100 % for tembotrione; 100 %, 98.7% and 100 % for flumioxazin + tembotrione; 100 %, 100 % and 100 % for s-metolachlor + atrazine + tembotrione; and 98.7 %, 98.7 % and 99.7 % for atrazine + tembotrione, respectively to the BRS 509, BRS 506 and BRS 511 cultivars. Tembotrione, flumioxazin + tembotrione, atrazine + s-metolachlor + tembotrione and atrazine + tembotrione showed a good control rate of Ipomoea indivisa, Digitaria ciliaris and Urochloa plantaginea, but did not present selectivity to the sorghum cultivars. Atrazine, in general, showed higher selectivity to the yield components of the BRS 509 and BRS 506 cultivars.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo o estudo fitossociológico da comunidade infestante ao longo do ciclo de desenvolvimento do sorgo sacarino e a determinação do período crítico de prevenção à interferência das plantas daninhas na cultura. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos ao acaso com três repetições. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por períodos crescentes de controle ou convivência das plantas daninhas em diferentes estádios fenológicos da cultura: 0-3 (V3), 0-5 (V5), 0-7 (V7), 0-9 (V9), 0-11(V11) folhas completamente expandidas e 0-R5 (colheita). A comunidade infestante foi avaliada por meio do número de indivíduos e da massa seca acumulada correspondente, para cada população de planta daninha nos diferentes períodos de convivência. O sorgo sacarino foi colhido aos 101 dias após a emergência, quando se avaliaram altura, diâmetro, teor de sólidos solúveis totais (°Brix) em função dos períodos de convivência da cultura com as plantas daninhas, além do rendimento de colmos nos diferentes tratamentos. Commelina benghalensis e Panicum maximum foram as duas espécies de maior importância relativa na área, no momento da colheita. A ausência de controle da comunidade infestante, durante todo o ciclo do sorgo sacarino, ocasionou aumento no teor de sólidos solúveis totais (°Brix) e redução de, respectivamente, 9% e 25% na altura e diâmetro de colmo da cultura, quando comparado com a testemunha capinada durante todo o ciclo. Considerando a tolerância de 5% na redução da produtividade de colmos, observou-se que o período crítico de prevenção a interferência correspondeu ao intervalo do estádio fenológico V3 a V11.

This work aimed to carry out a phytosociological study and to determine the critical period of weed interference on sweet sorghum crop. The experimental design adopted was randomized blocks with three replications. Treatments consisted by increasing periods of control or coexistence of weeds in different phenological stages of crop growth: 0-3 (V3), 0-5 (V5), 0-7 (V7), 0-9 (V9), 0-11(V11) fully expanded leaves and 0-R5 (harvest). The weed community was evaluated based on number the number of individuals and their correspondent dry mass accumulation, for each weed population in different periods of coexistence. Sweet sorghum was harvested at 101 days after emergence, when was measured plant height, culm diameter, total soluble solids (°Brix) in function of coexistence periods between crop and weeds, besides the yield of culms. Commelina benghalensis e Panicum maximum were the two species of higher relative importance at the crop harvested. The lack of weed control, during the crop cycle, caused an increase in total soluble solids (°Brix) and reduction of, respectively, 9 and 25% in plant height and culms diameter when compared with the hoed control during all cycle. Accepting losses of 5% in culm yield, was observed that the critical period of weed interference corresponded to the period of time between the phenological growth stage V3 to V11.

Objetivou-se com o trabalho avaliar os efeitos de épocas de emergência das plantas daninhas, azevém e nabo, sobre a cultura da cevada. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento de blocos casualizados, arranjado em esquema fatorial 2x5, com três repetições. No fator A, foram alocadas as plantas competidoras (azevém e nabo) e no B as épocas de emergência (14 e 07 dias antes, no mesmo dia, 07 e 14 dias depois da emergência da cultura). No início da floração da cevada, foram mensuradas as variáveis: estatura das plantas, número de colmos ou caules, área foliar e matéria seca da parte aérea da cultura e das plantas daninhas. Todas as variáveis avaliadas da cevada apresentaram aumento de valor com o atraso da emergência das plantas daninhas. As espécies, cultivada ou daninhas, que emergiram antes, apresentaram maior habilidade competitiva, dominando o ambiente quando emergiram 14 dias antes uma da outra. Quanto mais tarde ocorrer a emergência das plantas daninhas com relação à cultura, menor é a interferência e, desse modo, maior é a habilidade da cevada em competir com a espécie daninha pelos recursos disponíveis no meio.

The objective was to evaluate the effects of times of emergence of the weed ryegrass species and wild radish on barley. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design, arranged in a 2x5 factorial design, with three replicates. In factor A were allocated the competing species (ryegrass and wild radish) and in factor B the emergence periods (14 and 7 days before, on the same day, 7 and 14 days after crop emergence). At the beginning of barley flowering, the following variables were quantified: plant height, number of stalks or stems, leaf area, and shoot dry mass of crop and weeds. All barley variables had increased in value with the delay in weed emergence. The species, cultivated or weeds, that emerged earlier showed greater competitive ability, dominating the environment when emerging 14 days before each other. The later the emergence of weeds with respect to the crop, the less the interference they cause, and, thereby, the crop presents a greater ability to compete with the weeds for available resources in the environment.

Objetivou-se com o trabalho verificar os teores foliares dos macronutrientes e o desenvolvimento das cultivares de cana-açúcar 'RB72454', 'RB867515' e 'SP801816' em competição com populações de Brachiaria brizantha. Os tratamentos utilizados foram: 1) cultivar de cana-de-açúcar 'RB72454' e população de B. brizantha de 0, 1, 3, 7, 15, 32, 40, 32, 64, 92, 88 e 112; 2) 'RB867515' e 0, 1, 4, 14, 10, 18, 28, 30, 36, 54, 52 e 72; 3) 'SP801816' e 0, 1, 3, 6, 14, 20, 24, 26, 26, 32, 46 e 56 plantas m-2. Aos 120 dias após a emergência da cultura, foi quantificada a massa seca (MS) da parte aérea da cana-de-açúcar e da B. brizantha. Aos 290 dias após a emergência (DAE), foram coletadas amostras das folhas +3 (terceira folha a partir do ápice das plantas), nas quais foram avaliadas as concentrações de nitrogênio total, fósforo, potássio, magnésio e cálcio. Com o aumento da população de B. brizantha, observou-se redução da MS somente na cultivar 'RB72454'. O aumento na população de B. brizantha reduziu a concentração de fósforo em todas as cultivares, nitrogênio em 'RB72454' e 'SP801816', potássio e magnésio para 'RB72454'. Nas populações mais elevadas de B. brizantha, houve maior competição pelos nutrientes disponíveis no meio, sendo o fósforo o mais limitante. A cultivar 'RB72454' foi a menos competitiva pelos nutrientes no solo. As cultivares apresentaram redução média de 76% na produtividade de colmos na densidade máxima de B. brizantha.

This trial aimed to verify foliar levels of macronutrients and development of sugarcane cultivars 'RB72454', 'RB867515' and 'SP801816' under competition with populations of Brachiaria brizantha. The field trial was installed where treatments were: 1) Sugarcane 'RB72454' and B. brizantha population of 0, 1, 3, 7, 15, 32, 40, 32, 64, 92, 88 e 112; 2) 'RB867515' e 0, 1, 4, 14, 10, 18, 28, 30, 36, 54, 52 e 72; 3) 'SP801816' e 0, 1, 3, 6, 14, 20, 24, 26, 26, 32, 46 e 56 plants m-2. At 120 days after crop emergence, the crop and weed shoot dry mass (MS) was analyzed. At 290 days, samples of the 3rd leaf were collected. From these samples, concentration of total nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium where measured. As the competition increased, a reduction in MS was observed only for 'RB72454'. Increases in population B. brizantha caused reduction in leaf phosphorus concentration for all varieties; nitrogen reduction for 'RB72454' and 'SP801816', as well as potassium and magnesium for 'RB72454'. There was higher competition for nutrients as B. brizantha population was increased, being phosphorus the more limiting nutrient for growth under competition. The variety 'RB72454' demonstrated lower competitive ability in relation to the other ones. All varieties presented average reduction of 76% in the yield in maximum density of B. brizantha.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do quinclorac nas características anatômicas de folhas e raízes de biótipos de capim‑arroz (Echinochloa spp.), resistente e suscetível a este herbicida, por meio de avaliações micromorfométricas. As plantas foram cultivadas em vasos de plástico com capacidade de 250 cm³. As imagens dos cortes foram obtidas com microscópio de luz equipado com sistema U‑Photo, acoplado à câmera digital conectada a microcomputador. Na seção transversal da lâmina foliar e das raízes, utilizou-se objetiva de 10X, tendo-se avaliado 20 cortes/campos por planta, com dez medições por corte e quatro repetições por tratamento. Observaram-se diferenças entre os biótipos resistente e suscetível, tanto na ausência quanto na presença do quinclorac. O biótipo resistente apresenta lâmina foliar pouco afetada pelo herbicida; no entanto, há modificação na constituição dos tecidos radiculares com a formação mais acentuada de aerênquima. O biótipo suscetível também apresenta formação de aerênquima quando tratado com o quinclorac, mas em quantidade inferior à observada no biótipo resistente.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of quinclorac on anatomical traits of leaves and roots of barnyardgrass (Echinochloa spp.) biotypes, susceptible and resistant to this herbicide, by micromorphometric assessments. Plants were grown in plastic pots with 250 cm³ capacity. The images of plant sections were obtained with a light microscope equipped with a U‑Photo system, coupled to a digital photo camera connected to a microcomputer. For cross-sections of leaf blades and roots, 10X objectives were used, and 20 sections/fields per plant were evaluated, with ten measurements per section and four replicates per treatment. Differences were observed between resistant and susceptible biotypes, both in the absence and in the presence of quinclorac. The resistant biotype shows leaf blades that are less affected by the herbicide; however, there are changes in root tissue constitution with increased aerenchyma formation. The susceptible biotype also shows formation of aerenchyma when treated with quinclorac, but in lower levels than those observed for the resistant biotype.
